Sensory Friendly Performance of The Lion King

Disney Theatrical Productions and Broadway In Chicago are proud to offer a sensory-friendly performance of Disney’s The Lion King on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 2 PM at the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W. Randolph Street). Performed in a supportive and judgment-free environment, this performance will provide the opportunity for autistic individuals, as well as people with sensory processing disorders and other disabilities, to enjoy the shared experience of live theatre.

This marks the first-ever sensory-friendly performance of a Broadway In Chicago show.  Lou Raizin, President of Broadway In Chicago, states, “We are proud to host this sensory-friendly performing arts experience that welcomes and celebrates inclusion. This event invites children, families, and communities of all ages who may benefit from a relaxed performance environment. Theatre is for everyone.”  Disney Theatrical Productions and Broadway In Chicago are partnering with Aspire, local nonprofit experts in disability inclusion. Aspire's team of accessibility specialists will provide a sensory audit, support environmental planning, train staff and volunteers, and help to ensure an inclusive and welcoming guest experience. Slight adjustments to the production will be implemented, including low house lights, exclusion of strobe lighting, and softened sounds.

This production is open to the public, but customary theater rules will be relaxed. Audience members can stand, move, talk, and make noise as needed, and the lobby will offer quiet spaces and activity areas for families. Guests are encouraged to bring their own sensory items, seat cushions, comfort objects, and extra su

Sensory-Friendly Morning

Join us for Sensory Friendly Morning and join Bodies of Work and Hubbard Street Dance Company with art making activities and movement exercises for all bodies and abilities.  Sensory-Friendly Morning is a free program for all people who benefit from visiting the MCA without large crowds and other sensitive environmental elements. This includes visitors with sensory sensitivities, disabilities, autism, PTSD, dementia, and more.

On these mornings, lighting at the museum is dimmed, sounds from artworks and environmental noise is kept at a minimum, and a quiet space is available to visitors for breaks. During Sensory-Friendly Mornings, preregistered individuals and their families can visit the museum to explore exhibitions at their own pace.  Sensory-Friendly Morning aims to be a welcoming space to experience contemporary art in a judgment-free environment.

Seesaw Theatre

Multi-Sensory Theatre

From the theatre:  "ALWAYS BE ASKING 'WHY?'" Seesaw Theatre was founded under the name "Theatre Stands with Autism" in 2012 by Northwestern University seniors Melanie Gertzman and Anna Marr. TSWA was founded with the belief that theatre is a basic human right and denying anyone access because of ability status is unacceptable. Rather than merely accommodating audiences with special needs, Seesaw Theatre produces multi-sensory theatrical experiences for small audiences where each guest is accompanied by their own "adventure guide" who plays with them throughout the production, creating an individualized experience.

Our shows are made to embrace all of the senses, not just sight and sound. Get ready to walk into a brand new world.

When you bring a guest to a Seesaw Theatre production, you can sit back and relax as an adventure guide acts as their liaison to the show.

Our shows are designed under strict supervision from our design chair to be safe and accessible for our audience.
